"Wherever you go, there you are"
Hello, I am a self-taught, Front-End JavaScript developer. My focus over the past year has been on JavaScript and modern application frameworks like React and Angular. What excites me most is reactive programming and light functional programming. See some of my early projects below.
Previous to this I have studied in a world-class entrepreneurship program, held award-winning leadership roles, raised funding for tech startups, and helped build the #1 university-based incubator in North America.
You can find me at a Toronto JavaScript meetup or give me a shout at aellen.j@gmail.com.
Taught myself to program front-end application development. Current focus is JavaScript, React and other modern application frameworks
Took a Product Management course @Brainstation and Scrum certification which has given me appreciation for today's agile and lean processes
Took an entrepreneurship program and worked for a Toronto startup incubator helping startups get access to resources and funding needed.
Throughout my early years in university I studied electrical and civil engineering - I loved physics. I took my first course in programming (C++) and loved how challenging it was to solve logical problems. I also took an Entrepreneurship course where I discovered my curiosity about what it takes to be a great leader and entrepreneur. This led me to pursuing a program that gave me the opportunity to work closely with tech startups and understand the startup ecosystem in Toronto.
This also led me to be around programmers and develop a curiosity about how to build modern applications with rich experiences. After having worked with startups and a digital media, app-development agency, I decided to go on a deep journey to learn the technical side of development. One that has captured my excitement and one that I will be forever on.
In everything I do I remember to remain humble, appreciate the little things, and try to understand others. I aim to live each day by six principles I like to call GETPIQ (Get Peak!): Growth Mindset, Essentialism, Trust & Integrity, Proactive Engagement, Intuition, and Quality.
I love omelettes, avocados, quinoa and batman. I once worked for the King of Bhutan. My personal office wall is full of storyboards diagrams, post-it notes and pictures of random castles in Spain.
I have a collection of leadership and success books that I like to reread for inspiration. I like playing my guitar from time to time, currently learning country.
I love salsa. My favourite products are my Fitbit Charge 2 and “Pencil” by Paper 53.
